Ka’an Luum Lagoon, Tulum, Mexico

The Lagoon of Kaan Luum was a big surprise, a small little gem within the Riviera Maya. The place is peaceful but we do recommend to visit it in the morning to avoid the crowd that usually arrive at around noon. The earlier the better and you will have more chances to have the place for yourself.

When to go

We came here late in the morning at 11am and there were a few people on site. After a short walk from the car park, between the bushes you will get to this long pier where this precious lagoon is.

During the year, the colour of the water changes from turquoise-blue to a fabulous Jade colour. And the lake is surrounded by jungle.

Cenote

An interesting fact is that in the middle of this Lake, there is a large cenote (~85 meters deep towards the centre). Only experienced divers can swim in this area(and there is an extra cost to do so). And this is the reason why there is a slight change in color of the water.

It is best to bring your own food and eat on the tables besidethe lagoon (do not forget to pick up your rubbish). There are no restaurants on site and there is a basic toilet.

Entrance fee

The cost of entrance is 50 pesos for swimming. If you want to dive it is 150 pesos.

Admission:

The lake is open from 9 am to 5 pm.

How to get there

The best option is by private car otherwise there is a colectivo (small bus) that departs from Tulum to Felipe Carrillo, they do not have a timetable so you will have to wait. Advice your driver where you want to go and the driver will let you know the entrance of the lagoon. From here you will have to walk for 15-20 minutes to the site where the lagoon is located.

Have you visit this lake? how was your experience?
